The Dallas Police Department's (DPD) Volunteers in Patrol (VIP) program brings together residents and police to provide visible neighborhood street and alley presence, deterring criminal activity. The VIP started patrolling our neighborhood in June 2008 — as of September 2023, we have nine PHA members certified for the program.

HOW IT WORKS

• Must be a current PHA member and attend four (4) hours of training from the DPD
• Training is the last Saturday of each month, 2–6pm at North Central Police station (McCallum & Hillcrest)
• Background checks performed on each participant by the police department
• Patrol in two-person teams, any time/day, at least one patrol per month, 2–2.5 hrs to cover the neighborhood
• Work directly with PHA Crime Watch Leader Mike Kiefer and the Prestonwood PID officer

RECOGNITION

In 2024, Prestonwood's VIP Patrol was recognized as a Top VIP Performer by the North Central Dallas Police Department. Mike Kiefer, our PHA Crime Watch Leader, received the Prestonwood PID Top Volunteer award. Congrats to Mike and the VIP Patrol team for keeping our neighborhood safe!
